The end of the month is approaching day by day and so the dates of the 44th edition of the Kolkata Book Fair. Another reason for happiness to the bookworms of the city of joy. The 12 days book fair is all set to start from 29th of January and will continue till 9th Feb 2020. This year’s Kolkata book fair is based on the Russian theme. The book fair will have around 600 bookstalls and 200 little magazines kiosks for the readers who will be visiting the book fair. The book fair will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee and the Russian Ambassador to India Nikolay Rishatovich Kudashev on 29th January 2020. The focus of Booksellers Guild is to make the book fair an eco-friendly one. President of Publishers and Booksellers Guild, Tridib Chatterjee, said, “There will be a cycle stand outside the fair to promote an eco-friendly environment around the fair. In two stalls of Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC), use of electric vehicles and electric cooking systems will be promoted. We are also taking measures to stop the usage of plastic in the fair. The state urban development department will soon announce more such measures to make it an eco-friendly book fair.” Another best part of the book fair is that the authorities have selected five old-age homes where the books will be donated to make establish a library. The Guild said that this will be the first time where they will be taking such an innovative and generous step. They also added that they have started looking for how many Hindi, Bengali and English readers are there in the old-age homes, once they will complete their process, they will donate books to those homes.
